Reading some news and watching Kaiba made me wonder about the future again…

Monkey’s brain controls robot arm

Mind uploading

  1. First of all, thanks for commenting on my blog.

I can’t really review on Kaiba since it’s stuck in the queue of anime series to watch. I’ve only seen two episodes and that’s not enough to get a handle on the plot. The retro-animation style is a put-off since I can’t give it enough credit after watching several other series, animated in a completely different style and one that I’m more used to. However, thanks to the Code Geass R2 delay, I might be able to marathon it a bit so who knows? I might be able to review it later on. xD

  2. As for the monkey- I think he was very hungry! XD Computers would hate to see what I think, it’s always branching off. Mind uploading would be the hardest thing for mankind to do in my opinion. Uploading memories/health, etc.. would be easier. If you want to due the soul, that’s a whole different story.

  3. Ffviiknight, Kaiba is not very easy to understand. In fact, even after seven episodes not everything is clear. I guess it would take the entire series to get a complete picture, but I do enjoy the series and the artwork very much so far. One of the themes the show is highlighting is the importance of the person vs the body. Characters in that show change bodies frequently and sometimes look… not very attractive, softly saying. However, they do retain their personality, and that is what matters the most.

Nicoleta, I agree that it would be very difficult to down- or upload human mind. You raise an important issue about the soul. It looks like you are a supporter of dualism. If that is the case, then coping or transferring would be much more complex or even impossible. Regardless, we still know very little about human consciousness, and Ghost in the Shell technologies are unlikely to be introduced in our lifetime at least.

  4. I understood that it was a deep series just by the first episode. Even though the animation is… different (to say the least), there was substance to the plot. Unlike other failures with bad animation (Maplestory TV comes to mind), Kaiba made me think beyond the norm. If I think about it, it really resembles a more abstract version of Serial Experiments Lain… though without the deity part (for now?).

As for the probable distortion of bodies, that doesn’t really bug me. I know what to expect from certain shows but I feel as though I won’t give it enough credit if say, I were to watch Macross Frontier first, be hyped about the HQ CG fights, then watch Kaiba, and feel gypped from the different style. But alas, not enough time right now to watch it.

    Nice classic AMV.
