Sky Crawlers – Mamoru Oshii

July 28, 2008

Somewhere, in a country similar to ours
There are children who do not became adult
They are very similar to us

A new work from the director of Ghost in the Shell will be released this week. I am sure animation and music quality will be high, but I have some doubts about the plot. Nonetheless, the film is worth watching.

Director: Mamoru Oshii
Original Creator: Hiroshi Mori
Music: Kenji Kawai
Studio: Production I.G.
Premiere: August 2, 2008

Plot:

The film is based on a popular five-part novel by a best-seller writer, MORI Hiroshi, who enjoys enthusiastic support from younger generations and has sold over 8 million copies of his works in total. The story unfolds in another ‘possible’ modern age. The main characters are youngsters called “Kildren”, who are destined to live eternally in their adolescence. The Kildren are conscious that every day could be the last, because they fight a “war as entertainment” organized and operated by adults. But as they embrace the reality they are faced with, they live their day-to-day lives to the full.

  1. Good animation… but like other series, have to see it first :)

  2. I paid the official website a visit. Very interesting.

I’ll keep an eye out for this one, although a legit English-subbed release is probably months (more likely years) into the future.

  3. Yes, it might take years, but the process will be accelerated if the film wins at Venice International Film Festival.
