Bōnen no Xamdou – Episode 20
December 27, 2008
Xam’d: Lost Memories 20
- Nazuna: “You had compassion for, and did all you could to see them blossom.”
- In this scene Kujireika talks about Nakiami’s fate. She says that Nakiami makes her think such “wretched thoughts”. However, Kujireika has no intention to sacrifice herself: she did everything to gain power and take control into her own hands. Her goal is to retake the Holy Land and the Quickening Chamber.
- Kujireika talks about Nakiami: “At the Mibina Festival, she wore a flower hairpin and clothes of mountain brush, and rode on Lady Sannova’s palanquin. But even you, my mother, cared only about my sister, while I, your real daughter, was relegated to second. You see, Mother, I knew the truth all along that our Tenjo was of low birth, born to a mere nursemaid.”
- It is an ironic statement that provides a nice contrast between the sisters. Kujireika didn’t find her own strength, rather she used an external source of artificial power. On the other hand, Nakiami found another source, a true power that lies within ourselves.
- Conversation between Yango and Nakiami was the key scene in the episode.
- Nakiami wants to come back and help her sister because she feels guilty of abandoning her, but Yango points out that Nakiami is a lost child that is about to loose her path again. His words are true, yet he also has a more selfish reason for holding Nakiami…
- Nakiami reacted to the situation, instead of responding, by trying to come back to the village, but Yango makes her realize what she is doing. Nakiami decides not to repeat the past – she will not abandon Yango.
- Childhood is an important period in psychosocial development. Lack of love and attachment can lead to grave consequences…
- Hope never dies, as well as those who prey on desperate people by selling fake panacea…
- Bread, just like flowers, is a recurring motif in Xam’d
- It seems there are some connections between Jibashiri and some people
- “Everyone thinks they can plan out their lives, but it seldom works.”
- Akiyuki: “Even over such a great distance, that girl could still bring us together like this.”
- “I’ve spoken to you in your dreams many times.”

Other Xam’d Episodes
I mentioned some key points of the episode in my captions or the pictures themselves, but I wanted to mention one more thing. This episode was about lost children, their guides, and reunions. Throughout our lives we meet people that help us choose the right path in the moments of confusion and uncertainty. We see many such relationships in this episode: Nazuna warns Dr. Takehara about the danger facing Midori and he meets with Midori’s father who is his old friend ; Yango helps Nakiami to stay on her path and they continue their journey together; Azami provides reassurance and comforts Dr. Kanba, linking with him; grandma Mrs. Sasamura tries to bring Akiyuki’s parents together, old friend of Prois encourages her to prevent Tojiro from becoming a lost child; Akiyuki and Haru talk about a girl who brought them together, and we see another Jibashiri who reunited with Akiyuki and will guide him.

Your Xam’d post this week is just WIN. Saw some things here that I missed out in my own post as well. Great job!
Oh, thank you
I am glad you liked it
This episode was about lost children, their guides, and reunions.
I’d rather say this episode reinforced the motif about how people go astray (or go nuts) when their loved ones stop caring about them for someone else, or so it appears to them.
Example:
Nakiami’s sis
Haru’s sis
Furuichi
Yes, it was also a part of the episode. Each episode is a web of many strings
