Hakushaku to Yousei 9
- Nico begs Paul for a drink, he’s starting to get the shakes.
- Success! Paul always keeps a small flask of whiskey on him at all times.
- Somebody needs a better hairstylist!
- I mean just look at how upset Paul and the Banshee are and all from looking at it.
- Oh that explains it, he thinks he’s Criss Angel Mindfreak.
- I’d say freak is definitely the word for him…
- Ahh there you are Ermine.
- Looks like someone forgot to wash their contacts again. You have to be diligent or you get nasty infections!
- Looks like the alcohol wore off, Nico will need to get some more.
- Oops look like he went a bit overboard this time.
- He’s got Lydia all worried.
- She’s starting to think he has a drinking problem…
- Nico does not like the idea of attending Alcoholics Anonymous.
- The distraught cat tries to hide, but quite frankly he sucks at it.
- Oh yeah, we totally can’t see you -_-
- Lydia hurriedly tries to find a way to tell Nico about his beloved whiskers.
- She decides the best way is to show him. Hopefully the shock over losing them will spur him to seek help.
- Maybe he’ll do that when he revives, the shock made him faint.
- Edgar is worried about his wine collection in the basement.
- He tells Lydia he had some very expensive cabernet’s down there.
- Lydia worries that Edgar might be thinking he needs a pair of kitty slippers…
- Paul is worried about Edgar killing Nico too.
- Looks like they were right to worry, Edgar looks VERY unhappy.
- Paul manages to distract Edgar by bringing a new problem to his attention.
- He tells them about the freak with the really bad haircut.
- Apparently he’s holding the banshee hostage.
- Hmm looks like Edgar might know the freak…
- What’s this? An alliance between Kelpie and Ermine perhaps?
- Whatever they are planning, Ermine looks pretty serious.
- She definitely has Kelpie’s attention, that’s for sure!
- And now Kelpie has Edgar’s.
- He decides to taunt Edgar about taking Lydia from him.
- Edgar tells him to bring it!
- Kelpie’s like “Oh I’ll bring it!”
- But he wants to name the terms of their battle.
- And so the glaring contest begins.
- Edgar gives as good as he gets.
- Actually he gave better, since Kelpie scarpers pretty quickly.
- Edgar is in a really foul mood, its not been a good day at all.
- Uh oh, I hope Raven isn’t bringing even more bad news!
- Oh dear, it certainly doesn’t look like Raven brought good news!
- A hung over Nico tries to get away from Lydia.
- But she is determined that he seek help for his alcoholism.
- Even if she has to drag him to the meeting. Oops don’t let Edgar see that carpet…
- Lydia waits for the AA people to arrive now that she has Nico secured.
- Just who is Ermine reaching for?
- Uh oh, now Edgar is the one turning to drink.
- Nice painting.
- Not sure Edgar can’t appreciate it though, I think his vision might be a bit blurred.
- I don’t think the AA meeting went well, judging by the look on Lydia’s face.
- Feeling down about not being able to help Nico Lydia goes to see if Edgar will comfort her.
- Raven isn’t quite sure how to tell Lydia that Edgar is drunk off his arse.
- So he comes right out and says it, leaving Lydia a little embarrassed. Edgar gets quite randy when he gets drunk.
- Edgar is VERY pleased to see Lydia.
- He asks Lydia how she feels about him. I think Kelpie’s visit earlier must have really affected Edgar.
- Edgar tells Lydia his true feelings and hopes she returns them. Take that Kelpie!
- Lydia tells him honestly that she doesn’t think of Kelpie in that way, so he has no need to worry.
- Hearing her say that, Edgar can barely restrain himself.
- So he throws Lydia his best come hither look.
- He looks pretty smug, he must think he’s gonna score!
- Her distrust makes Edgar really sad, since his words are coming from the heart.
- He pulls her to him, figuring actions speak louder than words.
- Lydia realizes that he looks even more handsome closer up.
- Poor Edgar, he really is sincere in his feelings.
- He really does love the silly chit.
- He hugs her tightly, hoping that he can convey how he feels with his arms.
- Edgar tells Lydia that he wants to show her his love for her, in another way…
- I have a feeling that way means little clothing…
- That looks like desire to me, Edgar may finally have won the battle for Lydia’s heart.
- She seems to be frozen.
- So Edgar takes advantage of the situation.
- She certainly isn’t putting up much of a protest!
- You can’t blame her though, Edgar is totally hawt!
- And then Edgar goes and ruins it all, by uttering Ermine’s name, stupid man!
- Poor Lydia, I think Edgar just broke her heart!
- The poor thing, he got her all hot and bothered and its led up to nothing.
- Because he’s fallen asleep!
- Lydia is upset on a couple of levels right now.
- To make matters worse, she’s stuck where she is.
- Uh oh, looks like that dude’s eye infection hasn’t cleared up yet.
- Oh, isn’t that the lady from the painting?
- Ick he still hasn’t gotten that haircut, he just doesn’t look as refined as Edgar.
- Oh no, now the doggie has an eye infection.
- If my hair looked as bad as that I’d look glum too.
Kitsune: It was very impressive episode, not only due to the intensity of the events, but because of the visual properties also. Directing of some of the earlier episodes left plenty of room for improvement, yet this episode was quite special. I was curious who was involved in production and found some interesting things.
Experienced artist Tetsuji Takayanagi drew the storyboard, and Hiromichi Matano, who has about 30 years of experience in the industry, directed the episode. It turns out they both worked on Tytania as well in storyboarding and episode directing roles respectively

oh, this brings back memories. Nico’s the real “star” of the show, so narcissistic over his eyebrows =p
He can easily rival Nyanko sensei of Natsume Yuujinchou in wackiness, no?
hehe Yes, Nico is an awesome kitty
My two cats are awesome!
Particularly Hime aka Alto-kun
