Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1
“There’s no need to dream during a war.”
I heard many good things about this anime and decided to check it out. One of the keys to my decision was reading a good essay that outlined the main themes of the anime directed by Noboru Ishiguro and based on a novel by Yoshiki Tanaka.
- Brun means brown and hildr may refer to battle in Old Norse language. Of course, hild may refer to this devious person, but probably not :P Brynhildr is a shieldmaiden and a valkyrie in Norse mythology. Under the name Brünnhilde she appears in the Nibelungenlied and therefore also in Richard Wagner’s opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen. The character might have been inspired by Brunhilda of Austrasia, a Frankish queen who ruled the eastern kingdoms of Austrasia and Burgundy. Initially known as a liberal ruler of great political acumen, she became notorious for her cruelty and avarice. (Source)
- Merkatz is voiced by Goro Naya (Inspector Zenigata)
- Golden lion’s voice sounds quite soft.
- Seems like a good situation for defeat…
- Nice display :) It looks somewhat unrealistic that he is able to pull such a feat, but the scale of the battle is really immense and it appears that it takes some time for the groups to change formation. His move was quite unexpected also.
- Hmm… They put Jouslain there too :P
- Yes, allies are important, but this commander lacks global vision.
- Sometimes I wish I had such an option.
The ED song is much better than the OP

Such a great show and the episodes just get better. It’s nice you picked it up. Hopefully it will gain more publicity even though its olde.
Yes, old anime need more love
Good to see you’re up and going, this series is going to be a long one.
It might actually help to watch it over a longer period of time, if just to parallel it with the current world outside.
But enough of that, I have to get back to packing. Going back to school…
Yes, this anime will keep me occupied for a couple of years
Good luck with your return to school!
You should watch the first movie (“My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars”) as soon as you get a chance. It’s set before the OVA series so there’s nothing to be spoiled and it is pretty amazing.
Thank you for mentioning this. I might check it out
This has been on my list for a while but now I really want to see it. It looks sufficiently epic to fill the void left in my heart since Banner of the Stars.
Yes, I am sure it will fill your void
