An 82-year-old former Imperial Japanese Army fighter pilot arrested for operating an ultralight plane without permission at a park in Kamishihoro, Hokkaido, has told police that he just wanted to fly.

Police said that Yonekura was a fighter pilot for the former Imperial Japanese Army. He began flying for fun more than 20 years ago, and bought his current ultralight about 10 years ago.

He should have gone through the medical checkups and renewed his license, but, just like with drawing, some people must fly 🙂
