Gasp! It’s terrible but true. It’s hard to get by w/o internet or music completely on any given day…for me especially when I’m at home or at work or doing research. But funnily enough, I could get by without them if I am totally away from civilization…like when I go hiking and camping in the woods with friends or even just stay at a nature resort where the place is devoid of tv or any such modern electronic stuff. But still, one can’t get by without them for too long. 🙂 I must say that 13-hrs is a bit much to be glued to the tv or the net.
Indeed, the proximity and ease of access make consumption of media very addicting. Going away from it all can be a nice experience though 🙂
Yes, 13 hours sounds too much.
That might apply to most technologically advanced countries. I could live without either for a short while… but in the long term, 50/50 chance.

It might be a good exercise in introspection. Why do we depend on the internet so much, while others can live happily without it and other conveniences?
I spend countless hours in front of a computer — but mostly not for leisure, so it can be quite taxing. Swimming and weightlifting help a lot ^^
I’m still in the 8-24 range but it’s pretty scary that 12 year olds spend so much time in front of a computer, no wonder their social skills are quite poor =__=
I spend about half of the day on a computer due to the nature of my work, but I have meetings with people as well.
Swimming is one of the best exercises 🙂

I used to play Guild Wars a few years ago. There used to be world tournaments where teams of eight people would complete against each other (GvG is very complex and different from your regular online battles in other games). At that time, there were Koreans and then there were everyone else. It was amazing to see how well they moved as a team and the brilliant tactics they utilized. I think it just shows how passionate and dedicated they were. When such a spirit is redirected to other activities, much can be accomplished by the country.
I think I can’t live without internet because my other persona is lingering around the anime blogosphere and I just can’t let it disappear like that ordinarily 🙂
As for music, I can live without it since I’m easily distracted anyways.
I can also live without TV since I can listen to radio for solely the news. doramas are not for me. XD.

Yes, I think westerners would have similar results, but it would be interesting to see how the groups differ.
