Macross Frontier Movie: Itsuwari no Utahime (マクロスF ~イツワリノウタヒメ~)

Some fortunate people did get a chance to watch the movie. Based on the description, the movie is full of various fanservice, including shower scenes with nudity (Sheryl & Grace). Some sequences were changed, new content was added, and new songs were featured as well.

I am going to quote some of the highlights and provide resources for further reading.

Ranka uses her mini scooter for delivery. Movie exclusive.

Nanase is not present in the movie.

Sheryl‘s first live performance is totally new.

Vajra’s attack caused both Alto and Sheryl to get blown away from the roof, Alto tries to catch Sheryl but their distance and the wind impact was too great for Alto to save her, so Alto screams Sheryl to land herself using the jetpack she installed on herself (damn convinient…). Sheryl had a very hard impact land and injured herself.

Brera calls Sheryl “Sheryl-sama” (or was it Sheryl-ojousama? Not too sure, but honorifics are definitely attached), and it was Brera that took Sheryl out of the scene, saving her.

There is also a Sheryl showering scene. That is not as “bad” and nothing beats Grace where she also has her own – Full fledged naked showing nipples even.

Sheryl have her own cellphone this time. A fish shaped cellphone in a form of Taiyaki. (Taiyaki is red bean paste wrapped by a soft layer cake on it’s outside, commonly fish shaped. A Japanese snack)

Alto and Sheryl’s first dating scene was significantly changed. One major change is that Sheryl and Alto had a scooter chasing scene (if this scene is attached with vocal music I would have thought this is another bollywood scene repeated from Ep.15, thankfully it did not happen), Sheryl uses her cellphone to take pictures of Frontier nature. But thanks to that she did not look at the front during driving and tripped. Alto saved her again; After that both of them fell from the short cliff and Sheryl hurt herself again. “pink monsoon” was played during that chain of events.

Alto Sheryl fans can feel the joy because there is a scene where Alto sucked the blood out from Sheryl’s wounds and Alto treated her afterwards with a transparent plaster. (Transparent plaster!?)

Sheryl boldly told Alto that Ranka actually has feelings from Alto, which made Alto embarassed and confused.

It was also there that Sheryl reveals how she knows about Aimo. That song was actually created by Dr.Mao Nome, which that song is passed on to her mother, then to Sheryl. Ranshe might have known the song from Mao Nome and passed it on to Ranka as well.

Ranka did not sing “Ninjin Loves you yeah!”. That song is replaced with 4 new gag songs and one existing song : Starlight Natto, Kaitaku jyuuki, Dynamu Chougakkin, Darumazeminaaru, and Choujikku Hanten : Nyannyan, which is the nyan nyan song. Dynamu Chougakkin was especially funny because it took place in Frontier Akihabara (WHAT? AKIBA AND OTAKUS IN MY MACROSS FRONTIER!?)

Ozma’s conversation with Alto about Sheryl being a spy was new and exclusive to the movie.

Ranka found Ai-kun in front of her house. Completely different from the TV series. Ai-kun was especially naughty in this movie as well (running through Ranka’s body everywhere? wow…)

In the end of the movie, Snow falls on Frontier, Sheryl asks Alto to hold on her earring. Alto praised Ranka for the job well done, Grace was commenting about the power of singing coming from both Ranka an Sheryl. The movie ends there shortly after the camera zooming out.

  1. Oh my. :0 That’s awesome news. I was a bit disappointed when you said there was a load of new/more explicit Fanservice in it (not a fan of that kind of fanservice), but the trailer made me all excited again. :3
The new footage seems to be interesting, though I am kinda surprised that they are talking about Sheryl being a spy of some sort, where that part was totally absent in the anime. Well, I suppose that is to make it interesting for those that have seen the anime.

Oh, Brera got a change of clothes. Well, he does seem more “normal” with them. I found it odd he walked around in those (for the common people) strange,”revealing” clothes. He looks good in his new outfit.
As for the songs, I’m happy they used old and new ones. Aimo, What ’bout my star (@F) and Lion, I welcome back, the others I’m looking forward to hearing.

And Ranka sure has some muscular legs in that last picture. o_O
Sheryl’s outfits are a feast for the fans that like it. |D
    And where’s Alto’s character sheet? D: [/sorry x3]

    1. Well, I hope those couple of scenes wouldn’t distract viewers too much. Also there are other types of mecha fanservices etc.

Yes, I am not sure what is this spy business is all about.

He does look better with this less revealing attire indeed 🙂

It is nice that some of the popular songs are featured and I wonder how new ones will sound 🙂

haha They definitely did it on purpose. Ranka is a rather skinny girl, but they added extra “meat” to make her more appealing on that poster because Sheryl pretty much steals the scene in that too revealing outfit.

Here is some Alto for you 🙂 I thought that he does not look very good on that sheet, so I didn’t include him, but he does tend to look nice in general 🙂

      1. So do I. I’m just hoping that the story line and characters are strong enough to carry the movie, and that it’s success isn’t based on things that aren’t necessairy.
I doubt the characters will be bad, since they come straigt from the anime, and had very strong personalities and back stories from the beginning.
So, all that’s left is the story line…
Though it sounds interesting, I find it wierd at the same time.

I have a feeling that Brera’s role will be bigger now.

So do I. I wonder if they’ll stick in my head as well the others did.

        Doesn’t she always?

        Oh, yey~
Hm, you’re right. It’s basically the same as the one that was featured in the Macross Magazine, but with less face shots (and Micheal and Luca).
Don’t you ever find it wierd that the boys in MF wear their School uniform all the time? I mean, if they aren’t in pilot attire or sms clothing, they wear the school uniform. Even when Alto sneaks into Ranka’s room, he’s wearing it.
You’d think that if they could give Ranka and Sheryl such a variety of clothing, they could do the same for the guys?

        1. haha That is a sharp observation about clothes. I guess they are trying to please male audience too much 😛 At least Brera got some nice outfit renewal 🙂

  2. ok i really wanted to input something
-when I got into Macross Frontier..I did my research…i looked up some random facts about how the concept came to to creator of Macross Frontier, plot-wise.

It was said.. although not sure if there are other credible sources, e.g. official interviews to back it up or what but the creator of MF (forgot who he was again) original character plot concept was to only<<emphasize only to make Alto & Ranka as the main characters, and ultimately were suppose to be the canon- OTP of the series… Sheryl was suppose to be Ranka's big-sister figure who is cheering for Ranka to get Alto's love..something like that. So , I feel with that said since in the very start the creator wanted a Alto Saotome & Ranka Lee pairing anyways..I think the movie sequel to MF: Fave Diva movie will head in that directon also where Sheryl most probably be left out of the loop.. if the MF creator wanted to go along with what he began with initially. However, in light of the whole LT-story plot that the mf creator's producers & execs told him to do instead… the relationship-aspect outcome might change…I frigg hope it does

Damn I hope it does Im such a hardcore Alto Saotome X Sheryl Nome fan << OTP forever!!…although Ranka is super kawaii..and all..i can't stomach Alto and Ranka together…to be honest if Macross Frontier only had Alto & Ranka as the main character/pairing..i wouldn't even bother watching it..but thank Buddha Sheryl was thrown in the mix..a bit more color!!
(P.S. If anyone can retort on this evidence please do or agree that this is some official facts..say something) I want to be proven wrong so badly right now.. AruSheri ❤ foreva

    1. Shōji Kawamori: wiki, ANN

Thank you for mentioning some interesting information 🙂 I have not conducted such a thorough research, and can’t comment on the origin, but I also support Alto x Sheryl 🙂

You see, Kawamori is like a god – you never know what he is going to do 😛

    2. Yes, that is true to a degree, but it only affected the deculture version (aired 6 months before the first episode of MF). During those 6 months, opinions changed and they decided to put in Sheryl as a rival. So when the first episode aired, Sheryl was already a valid contender for Alto’s heart.

Honestly I don’t buy that argument. Just because initially it was supposed to be Alto/Ranka doesn’t mean that it will stay the same until the end. Just because Cloud and Aerith were designed first, and Tifa later, doesn’t make Tifa any less important (I’m a Clerith, btw).

Characters have a life of their own, they won’t stay as you want them to be. That is why there’s something called CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. If you force the characters to your initial plans, fans won’t buy it because it doesn’t make sense.

I’m sure Kawamori is not so close-minded to narrow down his vision to that. He is a superb storyteller, mind you. He has seen Sheryl’s potential and given her a chance — from a haughty diva to a strong woman — and because of that we get to experience Alto/Sheryl’s delightful relationship at the end of the series.

Then, wasn’t it Kawamori who stated that he enjoyed the Alto/Sheryl scene in episode 24, and ultimately thinks that the show ended in a ‘perfect triangle’? So, those claims about him being an Alto/Ranka supporter are unfounded. I would call him a Sheryl/Alto/Ranka supporter at most.

      1. Thank you for your informative comment 🙂

Characters have a life of their own, they won’t stay as you want them to be. That is why there’s something called CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. If you force the characters to your initial plans, fans won’t buy it because it doesn’t make sense.

Indeed, this is very true. It is essential to provide a good believable development that is in character.

    3. That claim was made by false interviews. Read Kawamori’s interview in the Sheryl manga release. He intended the series to have two songtress since the beginning to explore the different facets of music: one on top of her career and a rising star which incidentally make them resemble Minmay. In fact, they searched for Sheryl’s voice before they went for Ranka’s.

Taking into account, Sheryl meets Alto first and is the tsundere older woman who is initially antagonistic with. It’s very clear he had her as winner since the first episode. Misa and Sara shared these traits. As did Sylvie Jenna in the non-canonical II: Lovers Again.

  3. I really can’t wait for the movie, but I’m more of a Alto x Ranka fan. (Don’t hurt me ><) Sheryl is just a bit ehh.. no offense love her too, but if it weren't for her Ranka and Alto would so be together (personal opinion)

    1. haha There seem to be too much antagonism between opposite factions of Macross Frontier shipping 😛 Everyone has a different preference – that’s fine 🙂

I really disliked Sheryl in the beginning, but her strong personality shined brightly at the end.

  4. wait so in this movie..Alto didnt pick any1? …oh wow..just pick Sheryl already…Ranka doesnt even seem like she likes Alto..Alto just seems like a talking buddy to Ranka… maybe later when Ranka matures..her feelings for Alto are not true..but rather only a friendly feeling…

  5. I hope the next movie has more Ranka songs? There seems to be too many Sheryl ones. -and since Aimo is not Ranka exclusive now…- O_o The 4 gag songs don’t count…

    1. yeah i want more Ranka songs too! i rele like Megumi’s soothing voice…BUT i have to say May’n is way better at live than Megumi. maybe cuz May’n is a pro singer whereas Megumi is a seiyuu/singer?…. >~<
