woooo, i remember this, i remember hunting high and low for Aoi-san’s music too :P, especially “光”, the one she did for the Wii game “fragile”. she has a very soothing voice, imo.
wow, i never really did examine the lyrics, they sure are befitting for the movie. thanks Kitsune, for the nice reminder of how beautiful music doesn’t need to be overly-orchestrated.
This song is from Gedo Senki, a Ghibli anime directed by Goro Miyazaki, but I heard that it does not quite match the quality of his father’s works. The film is based on books by Ursula K. Le Guin, but she criticized the animated version.
Teshima Aoi is an underappreciated talent! I bought the album I bought the album Gedo Senki Kashuu ゲド戦記歌集 and fell in love with her instantly! 😀
On another note, I feel that the quality of OSTs was slightly lacking in excellence although still good. But then again I felt the same way about Ponyo on the Cliff too..
hm perhaps we should look at the adaptions as something different. I believe though that it’s good, if the adaption at least retains the essense of the book.
Oh, I remember this song. (: It was good. Yeah I heard about the author critiquing the movie, and her comments weren’t good. Actually it was the first time I read about an author reviewing her own book adaptation and saying that it wasn’t good. I’ve read the Earthsea books before though-and they were pretty good. Haven’t seen this movie yet. This song seems to have that Enya ala LOTR quality about it… haha.
This scene and this song is the best part of the anime, in my opinion. It assures me that Gedo Seki is made with love and dedication. It just lacks the skill and experience.
Wow I haven’t heard this piece in a while. Such a simple but evocative melody with the lovely vocals of Teshima Aoi carrying the whole song. I’m glad many still liked it as well.

Oh, that is a nice track – thank you for mentioning it 🙂
You are welcome 🙂 Indeed, a voice alone can transmit feelings well. This somewhat reminded me of Kanno’s “Voices”.
From which anime is it? Enchanting…

Yes, she is a great artist 🙂

Yes, adaptations are different. It is good when movies make people want to read the original books 🙂

I also don’t recall many instances of an original author criticizing a film adaptation.
Ah, you read the books, but have not seen the movie – that’s better than the inverse 🙂
Yes, it is somewhat similar to Enya.

He has the genes, with some training and experience he’ll improve eventually.

It is amazing how a simple song can have such an effect.
