  1. This is going to be an amazing movie! I can only imagine how Tezuka’s work would be animated. Then the anticipation of just waiting for X Japan’s new CD is just immense.

    1. I hope so! It looks promising, and I am glad that they are doing a trilogy rather than just trying to compress everything into one film. Oshima is working on music – it will be great! 😀

  2. kyaaaaaaaaaah~~~~ yes, yes X Japan music, great animation and character designs, even if I’ve seen the trailer before I still want to scream from happiness 🙂 Makoto’s Shinkai new film (collaboration with Ghibli) is going to be great as well

  3. If its a real story of Siddhartha (Buddha) so i must say he was a total confused and a failure to fulfill the duties on his family and his people.
He just crying all the time and do nothing .
why so many animals happy on his birth even a tatta is more help full then this hopeless Siddhartha.
Why great saint said Siddhartha will be the king of the world ?
He just abandon his all responsibility and live peacefully alone somewhere, coward unworthy. i wasted my time on this movie.
what were they thinking ! if some how they manage to make this imaginary movies for kids so they have to make some more creative then that .

    1. Let us take your argument in parts.

“total confused and a failure to fulfill the duties on his family and his people.”

Was he totally confused in the beginning? Yes, absolutely. However, he did something about it and pursued truth. Did he do what his family wanted? No, but he showed many other people a way of life. Thus, he did much more than many others who were in his position.

“He just crying all the time and do nothing . Why so many animals happy on his birth even a tatta is more help full then this hopeless Siddhartha. Why great saint said Siddhartha will be the king of the world ?”

Whether or not all the animals were happy is not important – this is just an artistic liberty that people took.

“He just abandon his all responsibility and live peacefully alone somewhere, coward unworthy. i wasted my time on this movie.
what were they thinking ! if some how they manage to make this imaginary movies for kids so they have to make some more creative then that .”

What he did afterwards is the key. There are several major schools of Buddhism, with Mahayana being the largest. The followers of this school of thought have fundamentally the same goals as Buddha: after attaining enlightenment, they decide to stay on Earth and help other people, rather than just ascending to Nirvana. That’s what Buddha did. He stayed and helped many people with his teachings, transforming many lives even today!

As for the children’s story. I’d rather not show children any religious films. They should inquire by themselves when the time is right.

Consider reading “Siddhartha” by a Nobel laureate Hermann Hesse. This book combines the essences of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
