Easter this year, April 24th, falls on the same date as another event in 1915 I recently mentioned. Also in 1915, Sergei Rachmaninov wrote The All-Night Vigil (sometimes referred to as Vespers), that is considered one of his greatest achievements, and was one of his two favorite compositions (the other is The Bells). Rachmaninov requested that the fifth movement be sung at his funeral. The following is the 10th movement from Polyansky’s recording (1986).
