Beast Player Erin 1

Staff and Plot Summary

Opening

Ending

Some things bothered me a little. I prefer concise and efficient exposition. Unfortunately, this episode featured some gratuitous shots and sequences. On the other hand, the ground in the beginning sequence felt a little too bland, as if from some old video game. Music choice was also a little strange, but it was not too bad, and I did like some guitar pieces. One of the most bizarre things was the ending: the recycling looked quite odd. However, all these are just minor complaints – the art and cuteness overload definitely outweighed them 🙂

Backgrounds and colors are just wonderful! Some of the sequences are symbolic and very colorful. For a second I thought that I am watching SHAFT show 😛 Opening is great as well, featuring many excellent pictures. Backgrounds are the most striking feature of this anime. Soft palette with pastel feel is very pleasant to watch. This episode is filled with many cute moments also 🙂 The little beast is just so adorable! :3 Overall, I enjoyed the first episode of Beast Player Erin very much and decided to cover this show regularly 🙂

  1. Well, ignoring the OP and ED, frankly this show has a lot of places it could go. It could be a happy-go lucky kids show about a girl who can understand beasties, and it could be a complicated show involving politics and war, and having the girl get thrust into the middle of it. Neither OP nor ED nor episode 1 give any hints to this. If anything, this episode just introduced the main characters, and set the premise for the world around them.

  2. SomeoneElse,

Yes, but it is likely that the show will stay on the course somewhere between those extremes. If you want to know more about the plot, you can read the books written by the author of Moribito and some reviews on Amazon 🙂

    Dentonboyz,

The studios involved are Production I.G. and Transarts. I provided a link to the highlights of the staff involved in the beginning of the post, but here it is again if you want to know more.

    1. Yes, the ending theme is cute, but I enjoyed the opening more.

It looks like Kemono no Sou-ja Erin and Tale of Genji are the only new shows that I’ll be blogging about.
