In 1969, shortly after formation of public television under a previous administration, president Richard Nixon proposed slashing its funding in half. Donald Trump is reportedly considering eliminating the U.S. Corporation for Public Broadcasting as part of his budget. The following is a poignant testimony by Mr. Rogers.

“This is what I give. I give an expression of care everyday to each child, to help them realize that they are unique. You’ve made this day a special day by just you being you. There is no person in the world like you, and I like you just the way you are.”
